Ian Robertson:

Born on January 17th 1945, in London, Ian Robertson won eight international caps for Scotland - for whom he served as vice captain - before his career was ended by a bad knee injury at the age of 25.

The most memorable moment of his playing career was Scotland's 1970 Calcutta Cup victory over England. He also won a Blue at Cambridge University and played for London Scottish, Watsonians and the Barbarians. Robertson was educated at George Watson's College in Edinburgh, Aberdeen University and Christ's College, Cambridge.

However, since retiring from rugby, he is best known as a rugby commentator for BBC Radio. Ian has covered all the biggest tournaments across the world. He was a regular member of the Rugby Special team and presented numerous previews and features for Grandstand.

He also enjoyed a spell as a correspondent for The Sunday Times newspaper. A prolific writer, Ian is author or co-author of over 30 books, teaming up with the likes of Gareth Edwards, Bill Beaumont and Andy Irvine.

He also helped ghost the official biography of Richard Burton, which became a best-seller in over a dozen countries. In the summer, Ian masquerades as an expert on horse racing, and has owned numerous shares in a succession of horses. He has some great stories to tell!
