London Scottish Under 8s have enjoyed a very successful run of matches in the triangular series.
LS1 Match day report from Darren Bartlett
A valiant effort from Team 1 who scored some scintillating tries....but sadly on the wrong end of some very close games.
The team perfected a great routine from the start with some great hard running that sucked in defenders allowing for some trade mark Scottish handling that would have graced Murrayfield enabling our super speedy wing wonders Cameron and Daniel making his debut for the U8s and didn't look out of place at all. Both showed great pace and balance to hug the touchline and score some great tries.
William and Eva did a great job in marshalling the defensive line and making some hard yards in attack, posing a constant threat to every team we played.
Vinay made some great breaks, constantly looking for spaces and always breaking the line, with Felix and Charlie offering themselves as support runners we were almost unplayable in attack.
As the morning wore on and it became bitterly cold our defensive effort started to wane but the whole team did themselves and the club proud in the way they played the game, applauded the opposition and never argued with the referee....
LS2 Match day report from Alistair Gay
Our U8s were bolstered this week by Frank and Adrien, who bravely stepped up on loan from the U7s to allow us to field three teams in a small tournament arranged with Richmond and Hammersmith & Fulham. Had there been any concern about how they would fit in, it was short-lived, with both scoring long range tries early on and continuing to have a significant impact on the outcome of our matches throughout the morning. With communication within the U8s developing nicely, restarts were well organised and defensive lines held their shape. Charlie M and Rufus in only their second week are already showing great promise, linking up with their teammates and developing an eye for the line, Charlie finishing off a great try against Richmond. Philip and Leonid made some great breaks and jinking runs both scoring tries. Tabatha, despite being flattened by a larger opponent early on, dusted herself down and scored some cracking tries, one in the corner in the last play of the final game.
Well done to all those involved and thanks to Richmond and Hammers for a great morning.
LS3 match day report from Ian Crichton
The triangular tournament was a fantastic Sunday morning of rugby played I great spirit. London Scots 3 began the day a little shorthanded and very grateful to the Under 7's for providing us with some extra players who did a fantastic job. Unfortunately with a late scramble for players we were rather caught off guard in our first match of the day and were well beaten by a well drilled Hammersmith side who caught us off guard. Moving forward however, we began to find our stride as the day went on - with some fantastic defensive efforts from Monty and Hugo really setting the tone for the application we showed throughout the rest of the tournament.
The rest of our games were very close and no-one would have known that Archie and Eddie were stepping up from younger age groups as they set about their task of competing with some much older boys. The highlight of the day was our win against another Hammersmith team in the our 3rd match when all the boys played some fantastic running rugby and we really saw them finding movement and space and most pleasingly moving onto the ball at a run - particularly pleasing was seeing Rupert head searching for space in the middle of the park and Jacob starting to take a direct line running forward. Unfortunately we were unable to find another win in our final game against a strong fast Richmond team despite parity at half time achieved despite the freezing cold with Olly and Jack showing great tenacity and chasing the opposition down all the way to the end.
Another great Sunday's rugby with a cracking group of young players.
