London Scottish secured a hard-fought 32-6 bonus point win over Edinburgh Academicals at Raeburn Place this afternoon to remain on track to qualify for the quarter-finals of the B&I Cup for the very first time.

The hosts stuck to their task manfully throughout the 80 minutes and it wasn't until the closing stages that James Buckland's side claimed the vital fourth try.

Victory moves Scottish to the top of Pool Two ahead of Sunday's meeting between Pontypridd and London Welsh.

Accies, who boasted five Edinburgh Rugby players in their pack including Scotland internationalist Ross Rennie, began impressively at the breakdown and were rewarded on 12 minutes with Alex Black slotting over a penalty kick.

They doubled their advantage soon after with Matt Everard sent to the sin-bin for Scottish's persistent infringement at the breakdown, Black making no mistake again from the resulting penalty.

Almost immediately Scottish hit back, Oli Grove and James Love setting up left winger Mike Doneghan for the first try of the afternoon.

Full-back Love made no mistake with the extras which eased the Richmond side into a 7-6 lead on 23 minutes.

It got better for Scottish with left winger Pete Homan getting in on the act, burrowing his way over from close range in the corner, Love's tricky conversion putting his side 14-6 ahead.

Seven minutes from half-time a simple James Love penalty from straight in front made it 17-6 and Love was at it again slotting over another penalty from distance to give Scottish a 20-6 lead at the interval.

The visitors began the second half better than the first and were rewarded on 56 minutes when skipper Mark Bright dived over from close range following an attacking line-out.

Scottish dominated both possession and territory throughout the half and at scrum time they gave Accies a torrid time.

It was from a scrum right on the Accies line that eventually led to London Scottish's fourth try, referee Nigel Correll losing patience and awarding a penalty try after Accies collapsed one too many scrums.

Love's conversion made it 32-6 and despite late pressure from Accies, Scottish's solid defence meant there was to be no more scoring.
