At just over 6’2” and 104kg, big David Halaifonua isn’t one to take a backwards step. The Tongan international had signed for London Scottish ahead of the 2020/21 season, but after the side made the difficult decision not to take part in the reduced Championship league he went to play at Ampthill on loan for the campaign, scoring two tries in three appearances.
David has 33 international caps to his name and made his Tongan debut against Fiji in 2009. He went to both the 2015 and 2019 Rugby World Cups with the ʻIkale Tahi, and has scored 27 points during his 33 caps.
He also has Premiership experience after playing at Gloucester for four years between 2014 and 2018. In this time he was known for his huge hits and was one of the Premiership’s stand out players. Whilst at the Cherry and Whites the versatile back made 44 appearances, scoring 12 tries.
Most recently, David was at fellow Championship side Coventry for two seasons, recording 27 points from 29 appearances.
