Scottish front rower Ewan McQuillin will leave London Scottish at the end of this season and will join fellow Greene King IPA Championship side Yorkshire Carnegie.

McQuillin has spent two seasons with the Scots after coming down to South West London from Edinburgh Rugby. During his first season with Scottish he was recalled by Edinburgh to play in their Pro12 victory over Treviso. He was originally snapped up the team in the Scottish capital after coming through their Elite Development Programme in 2013.

Director of Rugby Dave Morris was very complimentary of the 26 year old. “Ewan’s powerful performances on the pitch speak for themselves but I also admire the contribution that Ewan made off the pitch with how he interacted with the rest of the London Scottish family. I’m sure I speak on behalf of all the players, staff and supporters in wishing Ewan the very best at Yorkshire Carnegie.”

When the 1st XV squad travel up to Emerald Headingley this weekend, to take on Yorkshire Carnegie in our final game of the Greene King IPA Championship season, McQuillin could face his future side.

McQuillin, who was sponsored this season by Tunnocks, leaves The Athletic Ground with many a fond feeling towards the Exiles. “I have made some great memories from my time with Scottish and would like to thank everyone who has helped me both on and off the field during my time here.”

120kg McQuillin is one of the most gifted scrummagers in the league and used his significant frame to pin down set piece, something Scottish will be looking to replace ahead of next season. McQuillin was originally brought south form north of the border by previous London Scottish forwards coach John Dalziel after he knew McQuillin from his time with Gala and Melrose.

McQuillin’s start to the 2017/18 season was derailed slightly when he suffered a knee ligament in a team run before the opening day fixture against Yorkshire Carnegie. After recovering from this injury McQuillin went on to make eleven appearances this season

Ewan has been a top member of the London Scottish squad over the past few years and many supporters will miss chatting to him in the Members Bar after games at the RAG.
