Last Saturday, the Community team of London Scottish were out and about in the local and surrounding areas at two different school Summer Fetes.
One group of volunteers were at Sheen Mount Primary School and the other were at Archdeacon Primary School. Both groups attended Summer Fairs engaging with the local communities and spreading the great work going on in the Mini & Junior sections at this great Club.
The Archdeacon summer fair was a massive success. Lead by Under 15 players Barnaby Welbourn and James Bashford, they had the Cairnhill Passing Cage up tempting people in to give it their best shot as they try to pass 5 balls through the target holes. They may have also been tempted to give it a go with the chance of winning an Amazon voucher if you had a top score at the end of the day. As well as the interactive passing cage, the Scots volunteers also organised an impressive eight different tug of war contests as the young participants tried to prove their strength against each other.
The Club managed to raise £220 for Archdeacon school and in the photo above you can see Barnaby and James presenting the voucher and medal to an Under 9 competitor who managed to score the perfect 125 points from 5 balls. Maybe keep an eye on him for the future!!
Over in East Sheen at Sheen Mount Primary, girls Under 18 player Juliette Shorey and Junior players Cesare and Carlo Crescini were the front of the London Scottish presence at this summer fair.
The London Scottish gazebo was stood proudly in the playground as dozens of children came over and to give it their best shot at taking down our tackle shields as they were introduced to the basics of tackling. Flyers were handed out to plenty of kids and parents who seemed very interested in potentially joining our Mini and Junior sections, hopefully, we will see some new faces when training returns in September.
This proved to be a very successful weekend for the Club, spreading the brand of London Scottish and engaging with the vital communities in and around the Richmond Athletic Ground. It is set to continue over the duration of Summer with many more community events planned in South West London and various school fairs and fetes.
