London Scottish announces with great sadness the death of former President Bill Macpherson on Sunday 14th February. He was 94.
Sir William Macpherson of Cluny (TD) was a distinguished High Court judge and President of London Scottish from 1972-1979. He chaired perhaps one of the most important public inquiries to have taken place in the last twenty years, namely the Stephen Lawrence Inquiry which resulted in the publication of the Macpherson Report in 1999. He was a Captain of the Scots Guards before commanding the 21st Special Air Service Regiment (Reserve) and becoming an Honorary Colonel between 1983 and 1991. He remained a member of the Royal Company of Archers, the ceremonial guard for the Queen in Scotland, until 2006.
We will publish a full tribute in due course, but meanwhile our thoughts are with his family and friends.
