London Scottish will be embarking on a post-season tour of Hong Kong in association with Deutsche Bank, in the build up to the British and Irish Lions match versus the Barbarians to be played on June 1, 2013.
With support from main sponsors Deutsche Bank, as well as First Cape Wines, the tour will incorporate a match between London Scottish and a Hong Kong Football Club Invitational XV, as well as attendance at the Lions fixture and several CSR events within the local community.
Director of Rugby Simon Amor will travel with a squad of 25 players and coaching staff and will acclimatise for several days before taking on the Hong Kong Football Club XV.
Hong Kong Football Club offers a state-of-the-art rugby stadium, with a new 4G playing surface and seating for 3,000 people. The stadium has hosted the Hong Kong Tens and IRB Hong Kong Women's International Sevens and is used by professional touring teams, including the All Blacks, Wallabies, Saracens, the Barbarians and the 2013 British and Irish Lions for training.
Following the match, a buffet will be held to entertain all players and management from both the teams, sponsors, VIPs and other guests, including Lions legend Sir Ian McGeechan. The buffet will be held in the restaurant at Hong Kong Football Club. The venue is a prestigious room holding up to 200 guests, with sweeping views of the HKFC rugby stadium and Happy Valley, the iconic skyscraper encircled horse racing track. The room will be set with staging to host the speeches, presentations and conversations with rugby celebrities such as Kenny Logan and members of the 2013 British and Irish Lions squad.
The tour will also include a community based initiative to support the Club's commitment to youth engagement and CSR. Working with the Changing Young Lives Foundation and the Sarah Roe Jockey Club with support from Deutsche Bank, young people from the Foundation will be participating in activities taking place before and after the match with Hong Kong Football Club.
As well as taking part in team training sessions, the squad will be given free time to explore Hong Kong. The tour will last for one week, with the Lions match taking place at the end of the week on the Saturday evening before the squad flies home on Sunday.
