St Edmund’s School became the first winners of the Nando’s Cup after defeating fellow finalists Chasebridge in a final played during half-time of the London Scottish vs Bristol match.
On Wednesday 27th March, students from 9 schools visited London Scottish for the inaugural Nando’s Cup, a Sevens tournament open to year 5 and 6 age groups.
With community partners Nando’s on hand to supply complimentary food for all who took part and London Scottish first team players Paul Spivey, Tommy Spinks, Richard Bolt and Craig McGrath helping referee the matches and give expert advice to the players, the day was a big success for all who took part.
Chasebridge and St Edmund's Schools were the winners of both pool groups and, thus, qualified for the final, which was scheduled to take place at half time of the London Scottish vs Bristol first XV game.
The two schools then returned to the Athletic Ground a week later and played out a thrilling final in front of a packed main stand. Both sides rose to the occasion and produced a great game, despite the inclement weather conditions, with St. Edmund's coming out on top and becoming the first winners of the Nando’s Cup.
A big thank you to all participating schools and we hope to see you back at the Athletic Ground for next year’s tournament!
