Saturday’s 32-0 win over Gala in the British and Irish Cup was only made possible thanks to the remarkable efforts of a band of volunteers who helped clear the pitch of snow.

Heavy snowfall on Friday had caused the postponement of several matches all over the country and it looked as if Scottish's final B&I Cup match would fall foul of the same fate.

But, after an initial pitch inspection was passed on Friday morning, a remarkable effort from an army of volunteers, including fans, staff, coaches and players, helped clear the pitch of the heavy snow coverage and the game was passed to go ahead.

Volunteers had arrived at the Athletic Ground from as early as 8.30am to help get the pitch ready, as shovels and blowers were distributed. By 10am, the time of the second pitch inspection, the progress they had made was remarkable and the referee was happy to pass the pitch fit to play on, so long as the remaining snow could be cleared.

Volunteers worked tirelessly right up until an hour before kick off and their efforts ensured that by the time Mark Bright led London Scottish onto the field just before 2pm, the pitch was devoid of snow coverage and the game took place as planned.

Scottish were able to reward the volunteers with a commanding display as a hat-trick of tries from Jamie Stevenson and scores from Bright and James Love helped the home side to a 32-0 victory.

The Club would like to once again thank everyone who showed up to help ready the pitch for their generosity and hard work. The game would not have been possible if not for the fantastic support the Club received.
