London Scottish hosted a three day rugby camp for 6-13 year olds over half term, with coaching from first XV players.

London Scottish have hosted another successful half term Rugby Camp, with children ranging from 6 to 13 years old attending. Over the three day camp the children took part in sessions such as introduction to tackling and contact skills, handling and decision making, running lines and fixing defenders, creating and maintaining space, switch, miss and loop pass execution, kicking skills and much more besides.

Expert coaches, including no less than twelve players from the 1st XV squad, delivered fun, engaging and effective coaching for all the children. Craig McGrath and Willie Lipp continue to be firm favourites at the camp and they were boosted by fellow professionals PJ Gidlow, Dave McCall, Jim Thompson, Phil Godman, Paul Spivey, Tommy Spinks, Tyler Hotson, Lewis Calder, David Howells and Alex Clarke, who all delivered well received sessions.

Josh Ferguson won the Star performer with Oscar Cano Mole gaining the most improved player award from the coaches of the senior group, while Oliver Boyes and Dylan Fogarty were prize winners in the junior age group. Simon Amor gave the closing address and was delighted to note that everyone who attended the week had tried their hardest and put in a huge amount of effort over the three days.

Jim Thompson: “The players have really enjoyed coaching at the camp this week and the wide range of core skills worked on means we are helping to develop the young players at the club. It’s good for us professionals to be giving something back to the grass roots of the game where we all learned our basics.”
