London Scottish Minis at The Kings Festival

09th October 2012
admin

We fielded teams at U8’s, U9’s and U11’s this year, and all had great fun on a lovely sunny October morning.

Under 8s

For the U8s it was the first tournament for many of the squad and they proved themselves to be very enthusiastic. 1 win and 2 defeats by only 1 try was proof of this. Most importantly, all of the squad were involved and all helped contribute to a very enjoyable morning with some real moments of flair. A promising start to the season and we are all looking forward to the next match.

Under 9s

The festival was a great learning experience for our U9s. After a tough group stage we played Old Emmanuel in the Plate Semi Final. A try started behind our own line and scored by Ollie Boyes (probably the try of the tournament!) resulted in London Scottish going through to the Plate Final. The Final against Old Ruts was close, the boys losing 2 scores to 1. However, the boys showed how much they had improved after only four games, so plenty of positives for the coaching team. The boys had a great morning at a very well organised and friendly festival.

Under 11s

For the U11s, reaching the finals of the plate competition was a good return for the effort that was shown, and we know we can improve from here, so we’re looking forward to the rest of the season.
The first match of the competition saw us come up against some strong opposition from Wimbledon, where we let them get ahead and struggled to get into the game from there. For the matches against Old Ruts and King’s we started to improve, as the tackles started to be made, and the team started to pull together.
Our best game was a tight contest against Old Emmanuel’s where it was one try a piece, but we went through as winners courtesy of the successful conversion (pity LSFC didn’t let us show our kicking skills at the match on Saturday, they would have been impressed with the accuracy).
For the plate final, we came up against Old Ruts again, but sadly, couldn’t take the spoils in a well contested game. All the players played their part, and we look forward to building on this as we progress through the season.
