London Scottish to launch a girls rugby youth section.

admin

The launch of the Girls Rugby Section at London Scottish takes place this Sunday, 3rd October from 12.00 to 2.00pm at the Richmond Athletic Ground. Girls from all age groups up to Under 18 are welcome to attend the seasons, which will then take place every Sunday from 12.00 to 2.00pm.

Through the establishment of a Youth Girls’ Rugby Section, London Scottish FC aims to develop a broad interest in the game of Women’s Rugby throughout West and South West London, specifically around the Community it serves.

London Scottish FC aims to provide the opportunity for all girls to participate in Rugby in an inspirational environment, ultimately developing a Girls’ Rugby Academy. There will be a very high emphasis on skills development for the girls, whether they are beginners or aspiring Internationals.

On this basis we will also provide appropriate opportunities for girls to progress to representative status at Club level, Regional Level and National Level.

In the near future our aspiration is to win competitions at league level and raise the profile of London Scottish FC the RFUW and SRUW.

We will work closely with our partners at Middlesex County level and will establish strong links with Regional and National level Coaches in line with the RFUW and SRUW strategy. Through the London Scottish Community Programme we will also foster links between local schools and the club to develop Girls Rugby at all levels. We want to make London Scottish FC the leading Club for Girls’ Rugby development in West London and beyond.

Commenting on the imminent launch of Girls Rugby at London Scottish, Doug Cowie, Chairman of Junior Rugby, said, “ we are delighted to be launching this initiative at a time when interest in Girls Rugby is at an all-time-high. With England only narrowly losing out to New Zealand recently in the Women’s Rugby World Cup Final and the fact that the closing stages of the competition were hosted at the Twickenham Stoop, there is a huge amount of local interest in the women’s game. We are also pleased to announce that Karen Findlay, Head Coach of Women’s Premiership Champions, Richmond, has agreed to take on the Girls’ Head Coach role at London Scottish. Karen brings with her a huge amount of experience which will enable us to achieve our ambitions”.
