London Scottish have signed promising young Scottish talent Alec Coombes on a one year contract.
The 18-year-old was part of Millfield School’s highly successful Sevens team last season which dominated the national circuit, culminating in victory in the prestigious Rosslyn Park National Schools Sevens tournament.
Coombes, who can play in midfield and on the wing, joined London Scottish on trial during pre-season and impressed enough to earn himself a one-year Academy contract.
London Scottish Director of Rugby, Mike Friday, said: “Alec turned heads during the Sevens season last term and was probably unfortunate not to be picked up by one of the Premiership Academies.
“We are the beneficiaries and since Alec joined us on trial during pre-season, he has settled in fantastically well.”
Friday continued: “His work ethic, desire and willingness to learn is great to see.
“I know the Scotland Under-20 coaches are following his progress so he has a lot to play for over the coming months.
“It’s now a case of taking the opportunities which come his way and I’m excited to see how he develops this season.”
Coombes said: “I have really enjoyed training at London Scottish over the summer and believe it’s a great club to continue my rugby education.
“I feel I can further develop my game here and would love to make an impression in the Greene King IPA Championship.
“I get on well with both the coaches and players who have all welcomed me into group and I’m looking forward to the season ahead.”
