Chevvy Pennycook was thrilled with London Scottish’s 32-23 bonus-point win over Rotherham Titans in their first game of the Championship season this afternoon.
The Scots scored five tries and were dominant up-front all afternoon, which thrilled the flanker at full-time.
“It’s a massive confidence booster,” he said.
“They had a brilliant season last year and will be up there again without a doubt.
“They are dangerous all over the pitch as we saw at times today so we have to be pleased.
“It was a really tough game but we contained them very well and to get five points and not to give them any could to be vital come April, so we’re delighted.”
Captain Mark Bright scored three tries all from rolling mauls and the 24-year-old praised the work that the team put in to that part of their game.
He continued: “We work really hard on the mauls, we have some absolute monsters in the pack so it’s certainly a good weapon to have.
“It will be an advantage for us all season.”
Pennycook, who had a long injury lay-off last season, is pleased to be back on the pitch again and is determined to carry the momentum into next weekend's away trip to Cornish Pirates.
He added: “Today is a great way to start but we have to back it up in Cornwall which is going to be a very tough game.
“That was my first 80 minutes in a while and it’s great to be back.
“I want to play as much as possible this year and help the team finish as high as we can.”
London Scottish next home match is against Bedford Blues on Saturday, September 20, 3pm kick-off.
