London Scottish captain for the day Adam Kwasnicki was proud of his team’s spirit in their final pre-season match against Glasgow Warriors despite going down to a 38-19 defeat at the Athletic Ground.
The hosts trailed 24-0 at half-time but rallied back to score three tries and win the second half against last year’s PRO12 runners-up.
Kwasnicki praised the team for the way they responded after the break.
He said: “We showed great spirit and played some really good rugby which bodes well for the rest of the season.
“It was a good run out against a really tough team that have internationals all over the pitch.
“They started very well and took the game to us and we were under pressure but managed to contain them in that second half.”
It was a great occasion for players and supporters with an attendance of 1813 and the 28-year-old was pleased that the match lived up to expectations:
He continued: “It was a fantastic atmosphere here today. For a club that loves its Scottish heritage it is great to have a top quality side like Glasgow come down to Richmond and play such a competitive match.
“It’s always an honour to captain the club and today was special.”
Scottish now turn their attention to next Saturday where they face Rotherham in the opening match of the Greene King IPA Championship season and Kwasnicki knows that they will face a huge test saying: “They just pipped us to the top four last year and are a very good side.
“They have been looking strong in pre-season, it will be a tough game but we are at home and confident that we can get a win.”
Rotherham finished one place above Scottish last season and qualified for the semi-finals but this year the longest serving member of the squad wants to go one better.
Kwasnicki added: “Our aim is to get in to the top four, we have big ambitions but the club have recruited really well and worked hard over the summer to make it happen.”
