MEMBERS UPDATE: RFU SGM

27th March 2025
admin

Ahead of the RFU SGM on Thursday 27th March the LSFC Executive Committee met to discuss the club’s response to the resolution of “no confidence” in the RFU CEO :-

“It is resolved that the members have no confidence in the CEO (Mr Bill Sweeney) and call upon the RFU Board of Directors to terminate his employment at the RFU as soon as practicably possible “

After a lengthy discussion with voices on both sides, the committee agreed not to support the Resolution of no confidence in the CEO.

This was a majority not unanimous decision.

The Club position was reached on the basis that any decision relating to the employment of the CEO of the RFU is purely the responsibility of the RFU Board of Directors, and not the member Clubs.  The Board of Directors makes decisions according to Board Members’ legal duties.

London Scottish supports the call for change in RFU Governance and notes the Council’s Governance Review which is already in motion.  Also, the recently launched recruitment process for a new Chair to lead the Board and in turn to make the appropriate decisions around the future leadership of the RFU and the whole game structure from Elite rugby to grassroots.

Notes

1. LSFC Executive is the representative body of the whole of the London Scottish club, Semi-Pro, Lions, Minis and Juniors rugby, plus Club Officers.

2. The London Scottish Lions has a separate vote and held its own meeting on Wednesday 26th March; its representative on LSFC abstained from the above vote for this reason.
