London Scottish has secured the services of Jamie Stevenson – one of Scotland’s most promising young scrum-halves – on a new two-year deal.

The former Scotland under-20 international has missed the majority of the season due to a knee injury suffered in a league match against Cornish Pirates last November.

However London Scottish Head Coach James Buckland has shown faith in the 21-year-old by handing him a new long term contract this week.

“Everyone is very aware of the potential Jamie Stevenson has,” a delighted Buckland said today.

“He has been involved with the Scotland A squad and in the next two years we feel Jamie can develop into a top class number nine.

“It’s disappointing he got injured the way he did but Jamie has used the time off effectively to build up his strength and conditioning – a part of his game he had to work on.

“We are hoping he will hit the ground running in pre-season.”

Stevenson, who joined London Scottish from Westcombe Park in 2011, said: “Given my current injury situation it’s great that the coaches have shown confidence in me.

“I really enjoy London Scottish and they have helped me massively as a player in my time here.

“Since I joined we have moved from near the bottom of the Championship to competing at the top.

“We are in the mix for the top four this season and hopefully next year I can help the Club kick-on again.”

Stevenson began running again last week and the scrum-half feels he will be in great shape by the time pre-season starts in the summer.

He added: “I have been working very hard on my strength and conditioning with Tim Harper and in the physio room with Jenny Graham.

“The rehab has gone really well and the knee feels strong.”
