Scottish Make it Three From Three

London Scottish continued their famed ‘run in’ with a third straight win against Caldy at the RAG. Running away 31-13 winners in a game largely controlled by the home side, Joe Gray and his men secured 9th position in the league with one eye on going a place or two better next week.

Scottish played with a strong wind the in the first half and made sure the make the most of it. An early Matt Wilkinson try off the back of some strong forward play set the tone in the opening quarter of an hour.

Shortly after Tom Marshall powered over from the back of a driving maul after some great set up play in the middle of the park from the backs. Caldy did respond with a period of pressure which resulted in three points of their own.

However, they would succumb to a late onslaught in the half. A first phase try from Josh Bellamy off a well worked move saw the full back dive in the corner. Then a few minutes later after a couple of minutes Frank McMillan showed his pace to make a break in the outside channels and finish off a great try.

After the break, however, the tide turned with Caldy making the most of the wind and some Scottish errors to score two tries from the back of their diving maul to take the score to 26-13. With leads squandered in the past, the Exile faithful began to feel tense.

However, those fears were allayed with a very mature final 20 minutes from London Scottish. A long range effort from Frank McMillan stopped some of the doubts early and then some great territorial management from the half backs stopped any chance of a Caldy fightback.

This leaves Scottish safe in 9th position but just behind Ampthill and Nottingham in the league, a win next weekend could see the Exiles climb as high a 7th position in the league. The best for many years, with the side already secured it’s largest points haul in a decade it has been a season to remember for London Scottish.
