The London Scottish Young Lions Academy side claimed a historic 34-7 victory in their very first competitive game on Sunday.

Taking part in the first round of the National Colts Cup the lads scored seven tries away from home to make it a dream start to the season.

After weeks of hard training and commitment over the summer, the Young Lions Academy set off down the M3 for their first competitive game in confident mood.

The starting XV immediately made their mark with some fine tackling to stop any advance from the imposing Portsmouth side.

Excellent London Scottish rucking kept Portsmouth at bay and the forwards fought well, winning scrums against a physical side.

The skills in the Scottish back line were excellent and this helped them gain a 15-0 lead at half time.

After the break Portsmouth came out fighting and London Scottish did well to fend them off with great defence turning over the ball several times on their own 5 metre line.

Eventually intense pressure proved too much however and the hosts broke the line to reduce the deficit to 15-7.

But that was as close as they got with Scottish eventually cruising to a fantastic 34-7 first victory.
