London Scottish are delighted to announce the signing of four players from Rotherham Titans as they look ahead to the 2013-14 RFU Championship season.
Prop Jamie Kilbane, hooker Ted Stagg and wingers Peter Homan and Mike Doneghan will all join Director of Rugby Simon Amor’s side ahead of the next season as Scottish seek to build on their 8th place finish this year. Prop Colin Quigley will be leaving Scottish and making the move in the opposite direction to Clifton Lane.
Kilbane, Stagg and Doneghan all played against Scottish in the 33-26 defeat at Clifton Lane on Saturday and the four Titans will link up with the rest of the Scottish squad ahead of pre-season in the summer.
Primarily a winger and also comfortable at outside centre, Doneghan joined the Titans in 2012 and has scored three tries this season in 12 appearances. Formerly of Glasgow Warriors, he has also been capped at Scotland Under 18, 19 and 20 level and has been named in Scotland 7s squads. The winger scored a hat-trick on his debut for Scotland U18s and has previously represented Linlithgow, Stewart's Melville and Stirling County.
Former Newcastle Falcons winger Homan has spent the past two seasons at Clifton Lane and is comfortable one the wing or at inside centre. A product of Middlesbrough RUFC and the Newcastle Falcons Academy, the winger has scored 6 tries this season from 14 games, including a score against Scottish on the opening day of the season and doubles against Doncaster and Moseley. He has earned a reputation as one of the fastest wingers in the league.
Simon Amor: “We're always looking to recruit young Scottish talent to our squad and we're delighted to bring onboard Mike Doneghan, who brings a huge amount of potential to our backline, as does Peter Homan. Both are exciting players who will add a lot to our squad.”
Loosehead prop Kilbane has spent the last eight years of his career at Clifton Lane, having joined Rotherham in 2005, and will bolster Scottish’s front row options ahead of the 2013-14 season. He recently passed the 100 appearances mark for the Titans and has represented Belfast Harlequins, Clontarf, Ulster and Sydney University before his move to the Titans. He also has international recognition, having represented Ireland at U21 level.
Hooker Ted Stagg has plenty of experience at Championship level, having spent time at Plymouth Albion as well his stint at Rotherham and he brings added depth to the front row. The hooker has also been capped at Under 16 and Under 18 level for England. Stagg has appeared 17 times for the Titans this season and has scored four tries, including one against Scottish during the 26-20 win at the Athletic Ground on the opening day of last season.
Director of Rugby Simon Amor: “Jamie Kilbane and Ted Stagg will improve our physicality and they are both proven Championship talents and great people to be adding to the squad. Jamie has over 100 appearances for Rotherham which proves his longevity and we look forward to integrating both of them into our squad.”
