A Game of Two Halves at Nottingham

A game of two halves can sometimes be a cliched way to look at a rugby game or sporting fixture but Friday night’s trip to Nottingham could not be summed up in a better way. Scottish were on top for the first forty and led 12-0 at the break but were blown away by a rampant Nottingham team who put on a show to romp away as bonus point victors by the final whistle.

Scottish had clearly worked in the week on the space in behind the Nottingham defence as it was a tactic they employed to great effect in the first forty. Bellamy stabbed a lovely kick through to the left hand corner in the opening minutes which just trickled over the try line.

However, due to the Nottingham full back waiting so long for this to occur, Solodrau Radianirova was able to pounce on the ball and dot down from under his opposition’s nose for the opening score!

A similar incident occurred just 15 minutes later as Scottish chipped ahead again only for the Nottingham full back to slip whilst gathering. This allowed Hayden Hyde to kick ahead again and dive on the loose ball for the score.

Nottingham looked to come back into the game for the rest of the half but Scottish’s defence and discipline held them firm to give them a first half lead.

However, the script flipped at the break, Nottingham dominated proceedings and Scottish were unable to make any inroads into their opposition.

Discipline was the first area to falter as Nottingham built field position which allowed their driving maul to get into the game. This accounted for two Nottingham tries at they cut the deficit.

However, in throwing men in to stop the driving maul threat, Scottish left space out wide and the hosts were able to make amends in the first half and score two lovely tries out wide which sealed a bonus point win for the home side.

Finishing 27-12 Scottish now host Cambridge as they look to bounce back and get back to winning ways at the RAG.
