London Scottish sat down with new signing Alex Wardell just over a week out from the side’s first pre season fixture against Exeter Chiefs on 24th August. He spoke about his experiences joining the Club as well as his first few weeks of pre season and ambitions for the season.

Having spent the last four seasons at Saracens Alex felt it was time for a new challenge. Making the trip from North London to south of the river after completing his studies at Loughborough he joins Scottish with plenty of top level rugby experience.

“Having spoken to Joe Gray and his ambitions for the squad, where we want to go to next and how he thought I could fit into that. That phone call really excited me and that’s what brought me down here.”

Knowing a number of the squad from his time at Loughborough University Alex “felt comfortable coming in initially. Through time you start to build relationships and learning how to play a different way. I’m really enjoying the new challenge.”

Talking ahead of the first few games of the season Alex has said “it’s going to brilliant. You want to test yourself against the best, Quins and Exeter are two of the teams at the top of the game. There is not better opportunity to see where we really are and what we can learn from.”

“It’s a great opportunity to play in a lovely stadium like the Stoop or Sandy Park. You’ve always got to be grateful for that opportunity. Hopefully it goes well and we learn some good lessons.”
