Caldy Claim First Win to Down Scottish

London Scottish continued a difficult run of results as they travelled up to Caldy looking to turn their fortunes around. Their hosts had yet to win this season and approached the game with the grit and determination of a side fighting for their first victory this campaign.

In difficult, windy and boggy conditions Caldy showed the composure and continuity to get over the line in the key moments an close out the game.

In the opening minutes of the game Caldy, streaked away down the left hand side after Roma Zheng saw the ball slip through his hands going for an intercept. It landed in the Caldy winger’s grasp who raced away for the opening score of the game.

A penalty a few minutes later extended the Caldy lead which eventually sparked the Exiles into life. Dominating much of the remainder of the half, London Scottish camped in Caldy 22 but were only rewarded with a singular score from Cam Anderson after a lovely chip through from Tom Wilstead.

Outside of this London Scottish were wasteful with possession and unable to take the opportunities presented to them. A theme which would continue into the second half.

Caldy turned the screw in the second half, kicking the corner expertly and forcing ill discipline from their opponents. Two yellow cards in two minutes came from this pressure as Lewis Gjaltema and Zach Carr both spent time in the bin the second of which also coinciding with a penalty try for the hosts.

Scottish were able to wrestle back momentum in the latter stages of the game and scored a lovely try out wide through Roma Zheng. However, this was all too little too late as they succumbed to another tight defeat.
