Extra Bs through to MMT3 Final after BA cruise

London Scottish Extra Bs stormed through to the MMT3 final on Saturday after an emphatic 0-36 away victory over British Airways.

Following extended periods of pressure not being converted into points, the Extra Bs opened the scoring with Paul Shapiro dotting down under the posts after some elusive running.

Captain Nick Dunne converted to make the score 0-7.

They got a second try when sustained scrum pressure from the Extra Bs ended with second rower Scott Langdon crashing over.

Dunne converted taking the score to 0-14.

Some smart play from the backline orchestrated by midfield trio, Justin Aylward, Jamie Kelly and Steve Baker, allowed Baker to touch down for a third try, taking the half-time score to 0-19.

The second half began in much the same way as the first half, with the Extra Bs scrum dominating proceedings.

Number 8 Lando Nel broke to set up the Extra Bs, five metres from the BA try line, before second rower Johnny Newman showed strength to score from a pick and go – 0-24.

More clever back play from wingers Andy Drummond-Moray and Andrew Johnston, directed by Aylward and Kelly, saw Baker touch down for his second try of the match, putting Scottish 0-29 ahead.

With British Airways determined to score in the final moments of the match, immense hold up work over the line from Aylward eventually saw Ed Bromley-Martin turn the ball over.

Dunne then passed through the back line from Aylward to Baker who released Jamie Kelly who stormed up to half-way before offloading to Newman.

He then showed deft hands to offload again to supporting runner, hooker Ed Rainford, who then finished with a sprint to the BA try line.

Dunne ended the match with another successful conversion, final score 0-36.

The Extra Bs now play Northolt in the MMT3 final on Saturday, April 11, 1.30pm kick-off at Twyford Avenue.

Everyone with a passion for London Scottish should come down and support the team!
