David Box has been appointed the new Senior Amateur Head Coach at London Scottish for the 2018/19 season.

RFU level 2 coach David Box will be taking over this new role with the club and will be in charge of all the senior amateur sides which fall beneath the 1stXV squad, at London Scottish next season.

Box, who was previously a London Scot, having played for the Exiles back in his playing days, knows the club very well and is the perfect candidate to move the club forward. Box previously coached the senior sides back in 2011 and spent two years growing the amateur section of the club and even produced some players who developed into 1stXV players.

After his time with the amateur club, Box moved roles inside Scottish and helped with the Highlanders for three years. Box was instrumental in growing the club from one amateur side to three teams and lead the team to consistently strong performances in the Zoo league.

Director of Rugby Dave Morris, who will be having much more of a role with the Amateur sides this season was thrilled to bring in David and was looking forward to working with him and helping the amateur section at London Scottish blossom.

“Our Senior Amateurs are going to start on an incredibly exciting journey as we enter the RFU league structure. David has been on that journey as a London Scottish player and in my view, knows exactly what is needed for us to be successful once again.”

Morris continued, “I was really inspired by his depth of feeling for London Scottish. His motivations for taking on this role are that he loves the club and wants to give back to the club. He will provide not only excellent coaching but also strong leadership and a connection to our membership. Welcome back David!”

Pre Season will begin for the amateur sides at Old Deer Park in Richmond next Monday 2nd July at 7 pm.

Training sessions will be 7pm-8.30pm every Monday and Wednesday. Everyone is welcome!

Box will rely on his eighteen years of coaching experience at both club and educational levels to reinvigorate the London Scottish amateurs. He has done it once before and his track record speaks for itself.

Box was clearly passionate about the rebuild of the amateur club. “The opportunity to build amateur sides was something I care deeply about. Scottish has always been supportive and welcoming to me, I still have firm friendships from my first game in the 2nds many years ago.”

“In my time working as a coach in the senior section players were happy and proud to pull on a London Scottish jersey. Now to present the opportunity to do this with the challenge of league fixtures is exactly the positive bold actions a prestigious club such as London Scottish should be known for” Box said.

The new incoming Head Coach concluded by saying, “my role is to enthuse players and members alike to dedicate themselves to the long-term progress and success of the amateur section. In the short time I’ve been in post, the level of detail and support I have been offered further confirms my conviction of the club’s ambition to build on field success while reaching out to the loyal supporters of the club.”

Everyone at London Scottish would like to welcome long standing member David Box back to the club in a coaching capacity and will be giving him its full support heading into an exciting year.

London Scottish would also like to thank departing Rugby Director Corne du Rand and S&C coach Stuart Aimer who are leaving the club to pursue other opportunities and would like to extend a massive thank you to both men who have worked tirelessly for the club over the last few years.
