London Scottish can today confirm that Scottish prop Phil Cringle will join the club next season.
The front rower joins from French club US Carcassonne, and the former Edinburgh man has made 19 appearances for Scotland Under 20s.
The 22-year-old spent two seasons in France after catching the eye while playing for Scotland at the Junior World Cup, but now heads back across the channel to play in the Greene King IPA Championship.
Cringle is looking forward to a new challenge with the Scots. “Having taken the opportunity to develop my game in the attritional environment of French rugby, I felt that now was the right time to return to the UK and this opportunity with London Scottish is really exciting, especially with the new relationship with the Scottish Rugby.
He added: “Sean Lineen is a coach I have worked with before at Scotland U20 level and he’s someone I have a great deal of respect for. I’m excited to be part of the plans he has for the club and pushing my game to the next level in what will be a great environment.”
Head Coach Peter Richards is pleased to add more bulk to the pack for the 16/17 campaign. “Phil is a great signing for us and I’m sure he will add some real impact to our scrum.
Phil certainly has the ability to be a good player for us next year in an exciting time for the club.”
