Hartpury Maul the Killer Difference

London Scottish bounced back from a heavy defeat last weekend, to put in a display worthy of a win against Hartpury in their Chirstmas fixture. However, it wasn’t to be with Hartpury’s maul burning a hole in London Scottish’s defence in the second half to come away with the win.

Scottish started with a stutter in their step, no doubt trying to regain confidence after the last few weeks. This led to an early score from the visitors as they crashed over from short range.

However, Scottish hit back with one of their own from the maul as Harry Clayton flopped over the line for the score. In this see-sawing game Hartpury would hit Scottish straight away as they pounched on an error to go over.

Scottish though built more control in the contest and scored two before the break, both through Hayden Hyde. The first a lovely line through them middle that cut the defence open. The second off a sumptuous cross-field-kick from Sean Kerr to set up the score.

Despite, this Hartpury would go into the half level after a final minute score just before the break. A chargedown ending a strong half for Scottish on a sour note.

The Exiles came out firing after the break, however, with Bailey Ransom finishing off a fine three phase move to score in the corner. This secured the bonus point and gave Scottish the lead.

However, things would slip away in the final quarter of the game. Two yellow cards and two tries off the back of rolling mauls did for Scottish as down to 13 men they were unable to find a way back into the game.

However, a point gained against a play off hopefully side is a point needed. A much improved display from the Scots as they look to build on some momentum this week.
