London Scottish suffered late heartbreak away at Chinnor on Friday night after a spirited second half come back saw them lead their hosts with just minutes to go. Only to be downed by a late long distance penalty.
London Scottish travelled to Oxfordshire in the knowledge they were going to be in for a dog fight against Chinnor. A side that likes to keep it tight, rely on their kicking and maul game to gain pressure, that coupled with the weather looking biblical for Friday night, Scottish would have to roll up their sleeves to get a result.
In the opening exchanges they did just that, exerting pressure through accurate kicking at physicality, Scottish would come away with three points for their efforts.
However, Chinnor fought back and fought back hard. Taking advantage of Scottish ill discipline they worked their way into the 22 twice and came away with two tries from short range. Chinnor would then extend their lead after half time taking the score to 19-6 with just half an hour to go.
Scottish had a mountain to climb and begun with a Tom Wilstead penalty to cut the deficit. Shortly after, the Exiles would work their way into the corner and power of the line from the maul. With the try only being prevented illegally Scottish got their opponents down to 14 men and secured the penalty try.
Jack Ingall then took his side into the lead with another short range effort and with just ten minutes to got it looked like Scottish may have secured a famous fightback.
However, it was not to be as Chinnor stepped up to take three in the dying embers of the match. Securing the win and breaking Scottish hearts.
Scottish now head into a week off to rest and recuperate, knowing that the next few fixtures are crucial in their fight in this league. However, taking a lot of heart from their second half fight back at Kinsey Road.
