Junior Academy and Senior Rugby Update

12th September 2016
admin

This summer we welcomed a good number of new applicants for the junior academy made up of U16s, U17s and U18s.

Team Management
The team management is made up of Euan Ferguson as Team Manager and George Swinburne, Chris Baxter and Neil McFarlane as coaches with Boris Pineles as Strength and Conditioning expert. We have a physio team looking after the academy and they are Aleesha Waqar, Sam Chappell, Emma Taylor and then Tobie Koster as lead physio. Also part of the management is Ian Hannah who is our Chairman of Junior Rugby.

Ealing Trailfinders Junior Academy v London Scottish Young Lions – 4.9.16

The first half was pretty even with Scottish leading 10-7 at the break. Ealing took the lead at 19-18 and then finished it off with another try by the full back to win the game 26-18.

The Junior Academy train on Wednesday evenings from 17:30 and Sunday mornings from 11:30 and most of their games are on Sundays during the season.

SENIOR ACADEMY

The club is fortunate to attract quality young players, all at different stages of their development, into the senior academy every year.

Team Management
The team management is made up of Corné du Rand and Ross Doneghan as coaches with Stuart Aimer as Head of Academy Strength and Conditioning.

Ealing Trailfinders Senior Academy v London Scottish Rampant Lions – 24.8.16

The Rampant Lions (Senior Academy) played in their annual pre-season U23 game away against Ealing Trailfinders on their fantastic 4G pitch.

Ealing have some quality players that kept them in the game and were leading 10-7 late in the game.

However the Scots were not done. The fighting spirit, the urgency and composure shown late in the game gave them a scrum underneath the opposition posts, with the clock reaching full time, gave them the perfect opportunity to snatch the game!

The ball found Calum Digby on the wing to dive in for a try in the corner to win the game 14-10.

SENIOR MENS RUGBY

The Hope Pub on Kew Road has kindly sponsored the seniors and the academy and will be the official pub for our senior rugby! We also secured another sponsor in Butter Beans Coffee, the brilliant coffee shop near Richmond Station serving the best coffees in town! So if you are a London Scottish member please support both these institutions so we can continue this partnership.

Team Management
Managing the section this year will be Ross Doneghan and Corné du Rand as coaches and managers, Philip Stokes as Chairman of Senior Rugby with support of Danny Rumble managing the Extra Bs. Matt Hayman was elected as Senior Rugby Club Captain. Ally Hart continues as Fixtures Secretary and Referee Contact.

Highlanders v Dorking 2nd XV away – 3.9.16

The game started well for both sides but the experience within the Dorking team was clear to see. The Scots did well in many parts of the game and scored some good penalties and tries but Dorking kept chipping away with tries of their own and had a 24-22 lead with 4 minutes to go.

The Scots got possession from an error on Dorking’s side and a scrum followed just outside the 22.This was the last set piece of the game. The ball was won and after 3 phases Cameron Gates had to step up from flyhalf to play the ball at the ruck and spotted a gap next to the ruck to slip through and run a good 25 metres to steal the win with a try making it 27-24!
