Lee Millar was delighted to return to winning ways last night after London Scottish scored six tries in a 38-17 win over Jersey at the Athletic Ground.
The 23-year-old scored a length of the field try after intercepting the ball in the first half – a key moment in the game which gave the hosts vital momentum following a good spell of pressure by Jersey.
But despite getting over the try line, the Scot says last night was all about securing the points and maintaining their ultimate pursuit of a top four finish.
He said: “It was great to get back to winning ways after a few defeats in the British and Irish Cup and up at Moseley last Saturday.
“We spoke all week about getting a win and we’re all very happy to go away with five points.
“Jersey played well in spells and proved that there are no easy games in this league.”
Despite leading 21-3 at half-time, Scottish had to withstand a huge amount of pressure from the visitors and Millar was pleased with the defensive efforts, adding: “We defended really well especially in that period in the first half.
“Apart from the two leaked tries we were pretty solid as a unit the whole game.”
Millar’s 90-metre run was the former Gala stars third try of the season and one that he will certainly remember for a long time.
He enthused: “I just pinned my ears back and I had Miles (Mantella) with me all the way so no-one was going to catch us. It was good to get a score.”
Scottish travel to Doncaster next Saturday in what promises to be another tough challenge but Millar says the momentum from last night's win will give them the belief to get back-to-back victories.
He added: “Doncaster have beaten plenty of good sides and we know how tough it will be.
“But we’ll go up there all guns blazing and concentrate on getting another win.”
London Scottish’s next home game is against Connacht Eagles on Saturday, November 29, 7pm kick-off.
