London Scottish Downed by Spirited Pirates

On a blazing hot day in front of a packed out RAG, Cornish Pirates travelled up from Penzance knowing that a win would see them finish second in the table and see a number of their Club legends off into the sunset in style.

The Penzance based team started the game the faster of the two teams using their strong pack of forwards to gain the physical edge over their opposition. An early score under penalty advantage gave the away side the lead in the opening minutes.

Both sides would trade scores with London Scottish finding the line through Bailey Ransom in the corner and shortly after Matt Wilkinson who would power over from short range. This took the score to 12-10 to London Scottish in the opening 20 minutes.

The Exiles would quickly find space off first phase with Will Brown finishing off and expert try in the corner. Further pressure won London Scottish a penalty in front of the post which Alec Lloyd-Seed duly converted.

However, off a goal line drop out in the final minutes of the half Pirates cut into London Scottish’s lead to score a crucial try just before the break taking the score to 22-17 at half time.

London Scottish came out of the traps with a vengeance in the second forty with a try coming from Will Hobson almost directly from the kick off after a great break from Charlie Ingall up the right hand side.

However, from then on in the Exiles begun to fade in the heat and the Pirates started to really grow into the game. The South West side started to gain supremacy at the scrum and maul. Denying London Scottish a foothold in the game, Pirates would run in three more tries and a penalty in the final half an hour of the game to secure a bonus point victory on the road to see them finish second in the table.

This brings an end to a season that might have been for London Scottish, with seven losing bonus points throughout the year and a further ten more try bonus points. The Exiles have come on leaps and bounds this year which leads to great excitement for what is to come in the 2024/25 season.
