London Scottish Fall Just Short in Ninety Point Thriller

Despite an historic win earlier in the season against Ealing Trailfinders, the fact that the men in green sat atop of the Championship with only one other defeat to their name this year did not fill many Exiles fans with confidence heading to north-west London.

However, what followed was an incredibly spirited performance that rested on a few key moments which if they went the way of the Exiles could very well have seen a different outcome on the day.

There was no doubt that the Trailfinders were in the mood for revenge following a defeat earlier in the season and they came out of the blocks flying. Three early tries stunned London Scottish as any small error was pounced upon and Ealing took their chances well to race into a 21-0 lead.

However, the Exiles brought excellent positivity to their performance and scored a belter of the top of the line out which saw Cassius Cleaves scythe through the middle before linking up with his scrum half to finish under the posts.

Heading into the break 26-7 down but knowing the Exiles would turn around with a strong wind at their backs buoyed the travelling support but they knew there was a mountain to climb.

However, two quick tries after the break first going the length of the field for the which was eventually well finished by Harry Sheppard following some excellent interplay down the right hand wing. Then a perfectly executed training ground move saw Dan Nutton race through the line out to finish a brilliant ingenious try.

Both sides would trade scores for the next 10 or so minutes which saw London Scottish eventually get within two points of their opposition with the score at 38-35. With just 15 minutes on the clock, Scottish would steal a line out and kick long over the full backs head. For all money the ball looked to be rolling towards a 50/22 and a brilliant opportunity to score and take the lead.

However, the cruel bounce of the ball took it away from the touchline and saw the ball go dead. Resulting in a scrum back deep in Exile territory. Ealing would score from the resultant set-piece and with it all but secure the game.

Once again, a massively entertaining game and show put on by London Scottish as they went toe to toe with another full time outfit. However, with some big games coming up results need to follow after the Easter break.
