London Scottish launches their Girl’s section
Sunday 11th November saw London Scottish launch their Girls section at The Athletic Ground in Richmond. 18 girls between the ages of 9 and 15 turned up for the first rugby training session run by Club Development Manager, Corné Du Rand, Richmond and Scotland Coach, Karen Findlay, Scotland Captain, Susie Brown and Community Development Office, Ross Peacock.
Karen Findlay said: “It’s all about the girls playing rugby. It doesn’t matter whether they have played before or not, we want to get them involved in the sport and having fun. The girls were certainly enjoying themselves and there were some great skills on show. It’s encouraging to see so many girls keen to try rugby out and we are now looking forward to building on today and looking to develop further during this season.”
Out of the 18 girls that attended the first session, 9 were completely new to Rugby. Following the hour long session, Corné Du Rand said: “We were extremely excited to see all the new girls who turned up from around the area and also to see our current London Scottish girls having a real chance to have an all girl rugby session! The coaches were all impressed with the girls and their enthusiasm, and the skill level of the beginner girls was very high which was very impressive to see and extremely exciting for the future here at London Scottish and for girls rugby! We can’t wait for the next session and even more girls turning up to play the great game!”
The next session is planned for Sunday 25th November, where other local teams have been invited to have a girls festival to aid with the development at London Scottish.
