Match Report: London Scottish Lions 74–12 Camberley

Regional 1 South Central – Round 22
King’s House Sports Ground
Saturday, 15:00 KO

———-

London Scottish Lions signed off their regular league campaign in emphatic style with a commanding 74–12 victory over Camberley at King’s House. In near-perfect conditions, the Lions delivered a ruthless attacking display to secure second place in the table and carry strong momentum into a potential three rounds of playoffs. It was a performance that underlined the side’s quality and ambition as the season reaches its decisive stage.

———-

With the sun shining over King’s House and the pitch in prime condition, the stage was set for an expansive game—and the Lions wasted no time seizing the initiative. Boosted by the return of captain Joe Emson from injury, the home side came flying out of the blocks with intensity and precision.

The opening forty minutes were as dominant a half as the Lions have produced all season. From the very first minute, the hosts controlled possession and territory, pinning Camberley deep and denying them any meaningful foothold—indeed, the visitors’ only involvement early on came from restarting after conceding.

Will Cane opened the scoring inside the first minute, setting the tone for what followed. The Lions’ attacking shape was sharp and varied, combining powerful forward carries with fluid backline interplay. Jem Edwards soon added another, before Callum MacTaggart crossed twice, exploiting space out wide with clinical finishing. Lachlan Lowick added his name to the scoresheet with a well-taken try, while Logan Trotter’s pace and support lines proved a constant threat as he crossed before the half-hour mark.

Behind the platform laid by the forward pack, Nick Hill and Aaron McLelland controlled proceedings superbly at half-back, dictating tempo and territory. Cameron Wray was equally influential from full-back, contributing with accurate goal-kicking to keep the scoreboard ticking over.

As the half progressed, the pressure showed no signs of easing. Byron Leach powered over, and Cane grabbed his second of the afternoon as the Lions continued to capitalise on their dominance in both set-piece and open play. By half-time, the scoreboard read an astonishing 50–0—a reflection of complete control, relentless tempo, and clinical execution.

To their credit, Camberley regrouped after the break and showed greater resilience. With the result largely beyond doubt, the Lions rotated their squad, which inevitably disrupted some of the first-half rhythm. The visitors took advantage, crossing twice in the third quarter as they enjoyed more possession and territory.

For a brief spell, the game became more balanced, but the Lions soon reasserted themselves. Logan Trotter completed a deserved hat-trick early in the second half, continuing his impressive afternoon with another well-timed finish.

As the game opened up, opportunities continued to present themselves. Hill added further conversions as the Lions maintained scoreboard pressure without needing to force the issue. Late in the contest, Dylan Westoby made a significant impact off the bench, crossing twice in quick succession to round off the scoring and restore the commanding margin.

Despite the more even nature of the second half, the overall picture remained clear: this was a dominant, composed, and clinical Lions performance, built on a powerful set-piece, intelligent game management, and sharp attacking execution across the park.

The final whistle confirmed a 74–12 victory and a fitting end to the regular season at King’s House. Securing second place, the Lions now turn their attention to the playoffs, where up to three more fixtures stand between them and further success.

This performance served as a powerful statement of intent. With the squad blending experience, depth, and attacking flair, the Lions head into the knockout stages full of confidence and belief.
