London Scottish are delighted to announce the signing of former ACT Brumbies back Matt Hawke until the end of the season.

The 28-year-old joined Scottish on trial in November, making his debut in the British & Irish Cup victory over Connacht Eagles.

Since then the Canberra-born ace has impressed to such an extent that he has been an ever-present in the London Scottish starting XV.

Educated at Daramalan College, Canberra, Hawke has been part of the ACT Brumbies set-up since he was a teenager and last season competed against Argentina A, Tonga A and Samoa A in the Pacific Rugby Cup.

Ahead of his trial period for London Scottish in November, the centre-cum-winger was part of the Canberra Vikings squad which was competing in the inaugural National Rugby Championship.

“I am really pleased to have signed,” Hawke said.

“Both the players, coaches and backroom team have welcomed me into the group and that has helped me settle quickly into life in London.

“I feel I'm already adapting well to Championship rugby and hopefully I can play an important role in keeping Scottish in the top four.”

London Scottish Director of Rugby, Mike Friday, said: “Matt has been a great addition.

“He arrived here on trial in November and straight away got his head down and started to work hard to earn himself an opportunity.

“Matt has a strong character, work ethic and enthusiasm which he transfers both to the training paddock as well as to the field of play.”

London Scottish, backs coach, Peter Richards, added: “Matt's application and professionalism has been excellent and it's obvious he has come from what is a really impressive ACT Brumbies set-up.

“As you would expect from an Australian, his all-round skill-set is exceptional and I look forward to seeing him develop over the coming months.”
