London Scottish may have fallen short of the win against Cornish Pirates but managed to secure a four try bonus point in an incredibly entertaining game in Penzance. Travelling to and from Cornwall in the day London Scottish’s prep as a part time team was always going to be compromised by the squad put in a hell of a shift to almost come away with a famous victory.

On a dry but windy Friday night, Pirates came out of the traps flying and shocked Scottish in the opening ten minutes. Some manful defence kept the Cornish to just one try in the opening salvo but London Scottish quickly hit back. Some great feet on the line from Jack Ingall saw him dot down to level the scores and then Alec Lloyd-Seed would add a penalty shortly after to take the lead for this side.

Pirates retook the lead through the close abrasive forward play but a lovely break from Bryn Bradley put his side in position to score again and retake the lead. Another late score in the first half and a penalty on the buzzer which saw Will Simonds sent to the sin bin gave Pirates the advantage before the break but by just a score as London Scottish eyed a victory.

After the half time break, Pirates once again came out the strong, taking advantage of a couple of Scottish errors the home side scored two quick tries with a lot of the pressure coming from their maul game.

This left Scottish with a deficit to overcome, one that in the end proved insurmountable. However, a maul try against this Pirates pack and a lovely long range score from Zach Carr gained the bonus point for the Exiles and gave the Scottish faithful something to take away from a long trip.

Coaches Bryan Redpath, and Joe Gray will be disappointed with some of the inaccuracies in that game and noted that their charges looked like a side with a bit of rust in them coming off the back of a 4 week break. However, both were proud of the effort of their side and looked excited for a big run of games to come.
