London Scottish U17s put in another solid league performance on Sunday beating a previously unbeaten Old Albanians.
On a great day for rugby, with no wind and the sun shining, the boys showed the benefit of the Wednesday night training sessions as they were rewarded with tries from all parts of the team. As is usual for this team, remember many of them are U16s, the opposition looked to have the advantage in size and weight. However, when one of the early scrums was duly shunted back by the London Scottish pack to gain one against the head, the team knew that that wasn’t going to be a problem.
With tries throughout the team including:
Cameron, a great arcing run from just inside the opposition half.
Ben, creating havoc in midfield, staying on his feet, and forcing Old A’s to commit two or three to the tackle in order to bring him down. He was duly rewarded with a try in each half and could have had more.
Adam collecting a perfectly weighted chip from Finn in the first half to round the defence and score under the posts, and also winning a fantastic foot race to the line in the second with Gabriel in close support.
Matty, going over after a bullocking 22m run from the back of a poor OA lineout, a try that really went down well with the crowd by the car park
Finn, sniping whenever in range and gaining a brace, whilst also succeeding with an impressive 7 kicks from 8.
And finally Harry, doing the same from a penalty close to the opposition line.
Old A’s were no pushover though, and scored a try just before half time when their centre made an excellent run, scything through a number of players before touching down. This took the scoreline to 21-5 and fired them up as they started the second half with some of their best phases of play, camping themselves down in the Scottish 22. It is a great credit to the Scottish team that they are now able to absorb pressure and frequently gain an exit without conceding a score. Defensive structures honed in the training sessions are really paying off for the Scots this season.
The picture (above) comes from last weekend when we hosted our friends Modena Rugby 1965 on their annual tour. We are happy to say Rugby is alive and well in Modena who brought two full squads over for their tour. London Scottish were proud to host them again, and arranged a Friday night fixture vs Ealing under lights, a trip to Saracens on the Saturday to see a premiership match vs Leicester Tigers, and a match on Sunday against our boys. Whilst we came up short vs Modena, full credit to the boys for bouncing back with a good shift this past weekend.
Our next game is a friendly at home vs Saracens next Sunday. Why not come along and enjoy the game?
