London Scottish U14s delivered a commanding 59-0 victory against Staines on Sunday, blending attacking flair with defensive steel in a complete team performance. The boys showcased the results of their dedicated training, with fluid ball movement, disciplined breakdown work, and relentless determination.
The Scots dominated from the opening whistle, with the forwards laying the platform for success. Jake, playing at No. 8, led the charge with dynamic ball-carrying, consistently gaining crucial metres and scoring two well-earned tries. Henry, as pack leader from flanker, was tireless in his work, driving into rucks, making tackles, and inspiring his teammates. In the engine room, Max and Ben provided stability and power, excelling at the lineout and ensuring clean ball for the backs.
A standout defensive moment came early when Alexander M made an enormous tackle on a Staines player twice his size, sending a ripple of excitement through the team and supporters alike. Callum added his name to the scoresheet with a try and conversion in the first half. Freddie joined the scoring with two tries, both following patient build-up play with Callum continuing to pull the strings with pinpoint passing and clever decision-making.
The backs, fed by this forward dominance, were in scintillating form. Alexandre, looking like a young Serge Blanco at fullback, counter-attacked with flair, slicing through defenders with ease and crossing the try line twice. Devraj added two further tries to complete a dominant first-half display.
While the first half showcased attacking brilliance, the second half was defined by discipline and defensive resolve. Staines fought hard to get back into the game, but the Scots’ defensive structure was unyielding. Henry and Conor led the charge at the breakdown, with Josh, in his first outing as flanker, excelling in his new role by making critical tackles and disrupting opposition ball.
The forwards continued to dominate, with Max and Ben continuing their strong second-row pairing. Jake’s power consistently put Staines under pressure, and he was rewarded with his second try of the game, converted by Callum. The entire pack worked as a cohesive unit to win turnovers and secure clean ball.
Late in the piece, Callum added another try, while Alexandre’s counterattacking brilliance secured him a hattrick. Finally, in the last five minutes of the game, the Scots were put under all kinds of pressure by a resilient Staines team desperate to continue fighting until the final whistle. The team fought together as a unit with heroic efforts from Cal, Jake, Ben and Henry as well as the rest of the team as a collective battling through waves of Staines attack to hold out and keep the clean sheet and ensure a satisfying end to a complete performance.
This 59-0 victory was about more than just the scoreline—it was a testament to the teamwork, discipline, and skill of every player on the pitch. Jake’s dominant carries, Henry’s leadership, and Nico’s outstanding service from scrum-half ensured the forwards and backs worked seamlessly together. Callum’s calm authority at fly-half brought balance to the attack, while Alexandre’s brilliance from fullback and the centre pairing of Rudy and Zebi added flair and firepower.
This match highlighted how every aspect of the Scots’ game plan is coming together. From set-piece control to defensive organisation and attacking creativity, it was a display that reflected the hard work the team has put in throughout the season.
