Scottish welcomed Will back from injury, and Konrad who hadn’t played since the first match of the season. It was good to see you both playing, and we hope you enjoyed the game.
Bracknell had turned up early, and ran out to the field raring to go. Scottish took a more leisurely approach and drifted in around 11:30, but in the end nothing could get going until Sean turned up after a late wake up. Must have a word with his parents about timeliness. The match finally got underway around 12:10.
Thomas took the captaincy for the first time, with Ted as vice captain marshalling the backs from full back.
With the match off and running Ollie G with his first touch of the ball ran in the softest of tries as the Bracknell defence were presumably watching a different game. Ted slotted the extras and the team probably thought this was going to be an easy match. However, Bracknell came straight back into it and earned a penalty in our 22. In what became a theme for them, they took the penalty and passed it to one of their big guys in the centre, who straightened up and ran through to score near the posts. Conversion scored the scores levelled at 7-7. Bracknell then started taking more control of the match and the next two scores went their way as well, one out on the left wing, the second with a forward drive on the right of the posts. Neither were converted.
The boys were getting frustrated as they knew they were not playing as well as they could, and were not getting much chance to play their game. However, the next score went to Scottish as Ted took a quick tap penalty and ran through the middle to score. With the conversion that took us to 14-17 at half time.
As the second half began, Bracknell lost a man from the centre with a knock to the head. This meant the game tipped dramatically in Scottish’s favour. Thomas was the first to profit from this as he latched onto the pass from a short penalty, which Ted again converted. Cameron scored next from a forward drive, Ted converting. Bracknell came back, scoring from their own forwards drive out on the right, but again missed the conversion.
Ollie got his second of the day as the ball cam left from a scrum right, and the defence opened up in the centre. Ted duly added the extras. Scottish then gave away a penalty try for persistent offside close to the line. In reality it was the wings that were offside, and nowhere near the play, however the try was given 35-29, and it looked like being a nervy few minutes as shortly after Scottish went a man down after Ted got yellow carded.
Will helped steady the nerves as he ran through the centre after receiving the ball from a scrum. Max added the extras 42-29. Bracknell came back again through a forwards drive from short range taking the scores to 42-34. Gabriel took the final honours as the ball went through a number of phases before he found himself in space for the score.
Full time had Scottish run out deserved winners at 47-34. Well done lads.
