London Scottish have signed back-rower Max Berry from Loughborough Students to add more depth to the pack for the 2017/18 season.
The 21-year-old was previously part of the London Irish academy before joining Loughborough to study Sports Management, and after impressing Director of Rugby Dave Morris he will head to the Athletic Ground for the next chapter in his career.
During his time at Loughborough he also coached the University 5th XV to double success of winning their league and cup competition. Max returned from injury to play in the last six National One games of the 16/17 season.
Berry is looking forward to heading to the Athletic Ground:
“I am very excited at the opportunity to play at London Scottish next season, it will be a new challenge for me as a player and I look forward to getting into pre-season and meeting the team!”
Dave Morris is pleased to have signed another back-rower, with the base of the scrum turning in to an area of strength for the Scots.
“Since I have known Max at Loughborough he has had a lot of set backs but he has never been beaten by them and always comes back stronger. After returning from a major knee injury Max showed me enough in the final six National One games for Loughborough that he deserves the opportunity to prove himself within a Championship environment.”
He added: “He has a good rugby brain on him and also has attributes to his game that are vital for Championship rugby such as his excellent line-out maul defence. Max also demonstrated whilst injured in his final year at Loughborough that he is a really good club man coaching the 5th XV to league and cup success. I have a lot of time and admiration for people who ask not what my club can do for me but what can I do for my club.”
