Scots Come Unstuck in North West

05th October 2025

London Scottish failed to come out of the traps in their first match of the 2025/26 season as they travelled to Caldy. A place the side has struggled in the last few seasons and so it proved to be again at the weekend as London Scottish toiled in the rain and wind.

Despite, what turned into a difficult day, London Scottish came out of the traps faster than their opponents. With the wind at their backs they were able to find field position and space in the 22. Some lovely hands put Matt Gribbon away in the corner for the opening try of the season.

A penalty to London Scottish as Caldy’s restart went straight into touch gave Fraser Honey a chance to extend the lead. Nailing the kick from the halfway line Honey saw his team go into a 10-0 lead.

However, that would be the final points of the day for Scottish as they failed to find the cutting edge after this point. Chances came and went in the first and second halves however they were unable to find the line due to a combination of stout Caldy defence and errors from the Exiles.

Caldy slowly built their way back into the game, a crucial score before the break got them in touch and then two more tries from the maul after the break gave them a cushion. A late short range score gave them the bonus point and put the icing on the cake for the north west side.

Whilst London Scottish left Caldy with nothing, a difficult day to start the season and the Scots will have to improve quick to find some momentum in the early part of the season.
