Scottish Damned by Rampant Pirates

Travelling down to Cornwall to take on the Pirates is always a tall order for any side, let alone when the there was a change to location, date and kick off time just over a week before the game. However, London Scottish will come away from their trip to Cambourne RFC to take on Cornish Pirates with big twinges of disappointment that they did not put their best foot forward.

Cornish Pirates were rampant from the outset of this game and clinical in almost everything they did. The maul was a huge weapon throughout, with the hosts scoring 4 tries directly off the back of the rolling maul.

The main issues for Scottish throughout the first half was unforced errors and ill discipline which gifted Pirates entries to the 22 and therefore the ability to make the most of their driving maul. Scottish shipped five tries in the first half and went into the break 31-0 down.

The Exiles never really got into the contest in the first half unable to gain a foothold in any sense of the game which made things tricky all round.

After the break, the Exiles did respond and showed what they are capable of. A dogged second half display but one marred somewhat with a few errors and inaccuracy. Scottish had more than enough ball in the second forty to score four or five tries but not the clinical nature to get them over the line.

Harry Sheppard returned from injury to set up a lovely try for Robbie McCallum as the latter collected a well waited chip over the top for a brilliantly worked try.

Shortly after Tam Lindsay pounced on the loose ball to hack ahead and chase down the covering defence over 60m. He made the tackle and won the ball back with some great counter rucking work all for Tom Marshall to dot down in a great piece of ingenuity.

However, it was not to be for Scottish on a Sunday in Cornwall as they fell short against a Pirates side who played their gameplan perfectly and got a big result at home.
