London Scottish’s slow start to the season continued on Friday night as Bedford Blues made it four wins in a row in the league as they travelled down to West London.
Scottish, ravaged, by injuries earlier in the week had to chop and change their squad to manage unavailabilities and and knocks ahead of Friday night.
In front of a packed out RAG on Friday, Bedford came out of the blocks flying. A beautiful set piece move saw them scythe through the middle for a great score in the opening minutes.
However, Scottish quickly regained composure and hit back swiftly. Penalties to build pressure and a well worked maul saw Harry Clayton flop over the line to take the score back to 7-all.
This was how the score would remain for the whole of the first half. With both sides having opportunities to score, both defences held firm and both sides probably felt that they could go into the break ahead.
Bedford however, put the game to bed in the second half. Consistently taking control of territory and possession as the rain came down the latter stages of the game.
Three tries all coming from short range and an accurate second half display saw Bedford take five points back north of the capital as they keep up their position firmly in the play offs after six rounds.
Conversely, Scottish lost their composure in the second half as the pressure came on. A string of errors and moments of ill discipline cost them at key times. However, the fight and the determination in the first half showed their ability to compete with the best sides in the league. Something they will have to take into a big clash against Chinnor next week!
