London Scottish go in search of their most successful season in a decade after a tight win over Chinnor on Saturday afternoon. Needing just five more points for their highest league points tally since the 2014/15 season from the final two games the Exiles have had a great year.
London Scottish came up against a fired up Chinnor who were desperate for a win which would see them back in the hunt to take ninth place but it was the Exiles that started the faster. Dominating the opening quarter, Scottish battered the Chinnor 22 with attack after attack but it took until after the halfway point of the half or the dam to burst as Jonny Law scythed through for the score.
Chinnor quickly hit back with two tries of their own as they pounced on a mistake and then bashed over from short range as they successfully built pressure on the Exiles. Leading 12-7 with the wind at their backs in the first half Scottish knew they had to react.
And react they did, a beautiful offload from Frank McMillan found Roma Zheng who went over in the right corner. With the clock in the red, Scottish built territorial pressure again and Will Trenholm made the most of it to bash over from short range and open up a nine point lead over Chinnor.
As the second half kicked off Scottish once again enjoyed a period of pressure in the opening part of the half. But were unable to make the most of that pressure to get a score. Chinnor’s defence held firm for the whole half and eventually they turned the tide.
A great 50/22 got them the position and the forwards managed to find the gap around the fringes for an important score and cut the gap to just two points.
Scottish kept the pressure up though and prevented Chinnor from getting out of their half. A late Josh Bellamy penalty was enough to secure the win as Scottish saw out a gritty but important win on the road. The Exiles now face Caldy and a shot at their biggest points tally in a decade.
