London Scottish picked up what could prove to be a crucial bonus point in a high scoring defeat to high flyers Coventry in the Champ. On a sunny day at the RAG it was the midlands-side that won the day but there was plenty for Scottish to be pleased about as they scored five tries in the afternoon sun.
Coventry started the fast, picking up on loose balls and pouncing on any error made by London Scottish in the first forty. Scoring three fast tries from loose play as Scottish struggled to contain their opponents.
Scottish hung in there, building territory and pressure in patches but were only able to come away with the one try in the first forty minutes from the maul and Harry Clayton.
However, Scottish went into half time down 14 men as Bailey Ransom was yellow carded just before the half, and to make matters worse Coventry would pick up their bonus point just before the whistle to take control of the game at 26-5.
After the break things got worse for Scottish as Will Prior was sin binned for scrum infringements. This put Scottish down to 14-men for a quarter of the game, something that prevented their fightback.
As a result, Coventry continued to build their lead despite flashes of brilliance from the Exiles. In particular, a stunning intercept from Bailey Ransom saw him go under the sticks and a late surge from the forwards to pick up the bonus point which could prove crucial.
Overall, it was Coventry’s day but Scottish showed their talent and prowess in patches but were unable to do it consistently and made too many mistakes for their opponents to jump on.
