Scottish Varsity Game: Edinburgh overcome auld foes

02nd December 2011
admin

A strong Edinburgh side overcame St Andrews 39-0 in the Scottish Varsity game on Wednesday evening in front of a crowd of just under 1500 people.

Both teams played some excellent rugby in front of an enthusiastic support, with St Andrews very unlucky not to get on the scoreboard.

Tries from Adam Davidson (x2), Andy Bryans, Phil Blazquez, Neil Aitken and Noah Pflaum sealed the victory, with Rob Cuthbertson, Rory Jones and Will Stephen notching kicks.

This was the first time the Scottish Varsity game had been played outside Scotland in its 150+ year history. With notable figures in the crowd including former British and Irish Lions Sir Ian McGeechen, Kenny Logan and Andy Irvine, the evening was a great success. Live music was provided after the game by the band 'Lounge Crusade', and the party atmosphere continued long into the evening.

The event was possible due to the support of FirstCape Wines, Caledonian Breweries and Black Grouse, who provided the refreshments. All three companies are already looking ahead to next year, as are both Universities.
