31st March 2026
admin

Saturday’s game was an incredibly entertaining one to say the least. 13 tires and almost 80 points but it wasn’t to be for the Exiles on the day. Coventry ran out winners and deservedly so, but what to the Stats tell us about this game. Who was the dominant side and who topped the charts, find out in this week’s Stats Bunker, brought to you by Cairnhill.

Top Line Stats

In the end Coventry ran out winners on Saturday but the top line stats were very even if anything favouring the Scots. Scottish had marginally more possession and territory on the day.

Carries were pretty even between the two sides with the midlands side shading that stat. In defence however, Scottish dropped off. Completing just 67% of their tackles compared to 85% from Coventry, a key differential in the game.

Set Piece Battle

The set piece swung to and fro throughout the eighty. At line out time Coventry struggled only winning 67% of their ball. Whilst Scottish retained 88% and scored multiple times from the maul and milked maul penalites.

The scrum was a different story, Scottish only completed 83% if their scrums compared to a perfect record from Coventry. Scottish also gave away seven scrum penalties to Coventry’s one.

Star Performers

London Scottish captain Bailey Ransom stood out on Saturday with a stellar performance winning him man of the match. The back row forward contributed 14 tackles, 3 carries, a turnover, 19 ruck entries and a crucial intercept try. It was a near perfect display for a great Champ impact score.

Where the Game Was Won and Lost

Coventry blitzed the second quarter against Scottish on Saturday and really made them pay. Scoring three tries to none and ultimately killing the game. This was built off eleven 22 entries to just two of Scottish’s.

It also came off the back of Scottish conceding eight penalties in just twenty minutes to Coventries five. The midlands side made 146 metres in this time, nearly ten times that of their opponents.

It was clear that Coventry had a dominant spell in the game which got them the win overall. Something Scottish will have to counter next them they take to the field.
