London Scottish FC are proud to announce they will be hosting a Calcutta Weekend Festival over the weekend of the 11th – 13th March 2011.
To coincide with the Calcutta Cup Six Nations match between England and Scotland at Twickenham on Sunday 13th March, a short walk from London Scottish's home ground in Richmond, the weekend will be a true celebration of rugby!
The festival is comprised of three key elements: The Powder Byrne Schools Six Nations Tournament, The Deutsche Bank Sportsman's Dinner and the Wooden Spoon International Legends Match. All of these events are designed to be a great way of making the most of the atmosphere and excitement during the build-up to the match at Twickenham, and, for those who were unable to obtain tickets to be at the game in person, the Deutsche Bank pavilion will provide the next-best alternative to watch the match while experiencing the big game atmosphere.
Powder Byrne Schools Six Nations Tournament
We are delighted to announce the ten elite schools that will be participating in the Tournament. For a full list, head to the dedicated Schools 6 Nations page. with a proud rugby tradition will be participating in the inaugural Powder Byrne Schools Six Nations tournament.
All ten schools have a proud and long-standing rugby tradition, many of them having provided current and former international players. The tournament will begin on Friday 11th at 1.15pm, with the draw happing at 12.30. The finals are due to be played on Sunday 13th, prior to the Wooden Spoon International Legends match.
It will provide a great opportunity to witness the cream of schools rugby from across Europe, as well as a fantastic opportunity for old-boys and girls from each school to reunite and provide vocal support to their alma mater! Tickets for the finals will be available soon from www.londonscottish.com for only £5 and include entry into the International Legends Match immediately afterwards.
The Wooden Spoon International Legends Match
As a warm up to the RBS 6 Nations Calcutta Cup match at Twickenham, London Scottish are delighted to announce the staging of the Wooden Spoon International Legends match at the Richmond Athletic Ground, between an International Select X against a London Scottish Select X. Featuring a host of former internationals and London Scottish Legends, this promises to be fantastic entertainment, and a great way to get in to the spirit of the day. Tickets for this game will be available soon at the fantastic price of £5, what better way to kick start the Calcutta Cup than with a walk down memory lane?
The Athletic Ground will be the best place to experience all of the big match atmosphere before and after the game at Twickenham, as well as being the next-best alternative to actually being at the game in person. Whether you are supporting Scotland or England, the entire family are welcome to be part of it and also enjoy the live music and entertainment after the match.
The Deutsche Bank Sportsman's Dinner
During the evening of Saturday 12th March, Deutsche Bank are proud to present a gala Calcutta Dinner. To be held in the Deutsche Bank Pavilion, the evening will consist of a three course silver service dinner, guest speakers, a silent auction and the presentation of three new inductees into the London Scottish Hall of Fame.
