This was a very successful first season in the Herts and Middlesex League for the London Scottish U13s.
After a tentative start, the U13s eventually won the Division 4 title winning all eight matches – a finish that exceeded all expectations at the beginning of the season.
Our squad has expanded significantly this year from around 23 to 34 players which has now given us strength in depth in a number of positions.
A key focus has been on increasing player effort and developing the team’s fitness.
The players have also made great strides in playing as a cohesive team, as well as developing individual skills, which was evident in the league matches and results.
We were driven close by Ampthill, who finished second in the league, managing to hold onto a 19-0 lead built in the first half, eventually winning 19-17.
However, it was our rucking, tackling and strong, direct runners in both the backs and forwards that provided the foundation for many of our victories.
Averaging nearly seven tries per match we scored a total of 55 tries.
There were 11 separate try scorers with Marcel running out as top scorer with 16.
At the end of season awards George picked up the ‘most improved player’ award and is now a regular member of the back-row.
Thomas was selected by the players and parents as the player who has had the most influence.
Will, who has captained the side, was selected by the coaches as their Player of the Season.
Thanks go to Kahren and Lisa, our Social Secretaries for arranging the ceremony, it was much appreciated by all.
We now look forward to a season in Division 3.
The focus on next year will continue to be on player effort and developing key individual skills.
